Ottawa Cleaning Co. provides professional house cleaning throughout Greely, Ottawa.

Greely is the one part of Ottawa where the water is the story. The City's Shadow Ridge well system in Greely tests at 350 mg/L total hardness - the highest figure the City publishes, and roughly twelve times the 30 mg/L of the central Ottawa River supply that the rest of the city drinks. Everything about how a home here shows dirt follows from that number.

Hard water in Greely and what it does to your home

One clarification first, because it matters for what we bring: only Shadow Ridge Estates is on that municipal well system. The Village of Greely Secondary Plan is explicit that development is predominantly serviced by private, individual water supply and sanitary sewage systems, and that all development in the village will be on that basis. Private wells are not tested or published by the City - but they draw the same aquifer, so most Greely homes show the same mineral behaviour whether or not a number exists for them.

Limescale on fixtures, glass shower doors and appliances

The City's own guidance to well-system residents notes that hard water can leave scale on hot surfaces such as kettles and hot water tanks, and suggests residents may want to consider an in-home treatment device such as a water softener. The other half of the problem is soap scum: calcium in the water reacts with soap and precipitates a film on shower glass and tub walls, which is why a cloth alone stops working.

  • Glass shower doors and enclosures descaled, not just wiped
  • Taps, aerators and shower heads treated at the mineral line
  • Kettle, coffee machine and dishwasher interiors
  • Sink rims, drain surrounds and tub edges

Cleaning acre-lot detached homes

Village Residential land in Greely carries a minimum lot size of 0.4 hectares - close to an acre - and only detached dwellings are permitted on it. That means larger floor plans, more entry points tracking grit indoors, and mudrooms and garages that do more work than a suburban equivalent. We quote on floor area rather than bedroom count for exactly this reason.

Private wells and septic systems: what we do differently

On septic we keep what goes down the drain conservative: no bleach dumped into drains, no caustic products flushed through, and mop water disposed of the way you would prefer. On well systems we adjust dilution, because a product mixed for soft municipal water underperforms at this mineral load.

New construction in Greely

Greely is the fastest-growing rural village in Ottawa and held 1,134 units of development potential as of 30 June 2024, second only to Richmond among Ottawa villages. It has no central main street and no heritage buildings, so nearly all of that is new detached construction - which for us means possession-day first cleans rather than heritage work.

FAQs

Greely questions about water, wells and acreage

Don't see your question? Text or call us - we usually reply in under an hour.

Why is there white buildup on my taps and shower glass?
Dissolved minerals left behind as water evaporates. The City's Greely well system tests at 350 mg/L against 30 mg/L on Ottawa's central supply, so the same shower produces visibly more buildup here than it would downtown. It comes off with the right product; it does not come off with a cloth.
Do you use different products for hard water?
Yes. We bring acidic descaling products for glass, fixtures and appliance interiors, and we adjust dilution for general cleaners, which underperform when mixed for the soft municipal water the rest of Ottawa has.
We're on a septic system - what do you avoid putting down the drain?
No bleach or caustic drain products, and no large volumes of disinfectant flushed through. We use them on surfaces where they belong and dispose of mop water as you direct, so nothing upsets the tank's bacteria.
Do you clean larger acreage properties?
Yes. Village Residential lots here start at 0.4 hectares and the homes on them are all detached, so we quote by floor area rather than bedroom count and schedule enough crew hours to finish in one visit.
